The Kristyna M. Driehaus Foundation is a proud sponsor and a partner of Chicago Czech Center (chicagoczechcenter.org). Many of the 2017 KMDF activities were created in the partnership with CCC.

 

Financial support of Theatre Bohemia – The KMDF was proud to assist with a matching grant that was used for the theatre group’s fundraising efforts in the Czech-American community in Chicago area. The community’s response was strong.

Reception with Senator Tammy Duckworth – March 30, 2017 – KMDF members participated in this event where international relations were discussed.

Event of Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky – May 5, 2017 – KMDF members attended this event in the support of Representative Schakowsky, who traveled to Prague, Czech Republic, as a part of the AFoCR.org CODEL. During this event our members were able to connect with Congressman Adam Schiff, who expressed interest in supporting the KMDF programs and exchanges.

AFoCR’s Visiting Legislators Program – May 15 – 19, 2017 – The KMDF was a proud supporter and sponsor of this important exchange program. Two members of the Czech Chamber of Deputies arrived in Washington for a five-day visiting legislators program hosted by the AFoCR. During their time in D.C., these Members of the Czech Parliament (MPs) were exposed to some of the inner workings of both the administrative and legislative branches of the US government. Entrepreneurial competition “Soutez a Podnikej” – September to June, 2017 – The competition is for high school students. The goal of the competition is to allow talented students to start their entrepreneurship activities or at least offer them the perspective of a possible future job opportunity during their high school studies. The KMDF contributed financial, and logistical support for the visiting finalist in the Chicago area.

Pavel Šporcl and his group, the Gipsy Way Ensem­ble – May 21, 2017 – The KMDF was proud to support a musical performance that served to dispell stereotypes about the Romani (also known as gypsy) culture. This concert by world-renowned violinist from the Czech Republic was held at the Merit School of Music.

World ChicagoAnnual Spring Diplomacy Luncheon – May 25, 2017 – Keynote speaker Ambassador Fay Hartog-Levin served as U.S. Ambassador to the Netherlands from 2009 to 2011 and is currently a Distinguished Fellow at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. Ambassador Hartog-Levin touched on the role of the ambassador in international relations, the value of people-to-people relationships and citizen diplomacy in the digital age, and how technology has changed the traditional role of the ambassador in geopolitics. The KMDF’s president and Amb. Levin were able to discuss the importance of the Czech-American people-to-people diplomacy, as well as the significance of non-profits in diplomacy.”

American Sokol Slet – June 22-25. 2017 – The KMDF was a proud sponsor of this wonderful event. XXIV Slet & Festival Banquet featured the  1st Annual Sokol Awards Presentation.

Christmas Spectacular – December 17, 2017The KMDF sponsored the Lincolnwood Chamber Orchestra and its Czech Christmas concert.
